Born in Damour, on the Mediterranean coast, 15 km south of Beirut, the two Cheaib brothers, Elie and Jamil, as well as George Ghrayeb, landed in Montreal, in 1976.

In 1979 the opening of a small 1000 sq ft store on Faillon Street at the corner of Lajeunesse was the first timid step of a long journey.
Hard work and big Expectations
Five years of hard work and exponential growth of the middle-eastern community contributed to the flourishing of the small enterprise. The needs for a bigger space and for larger operations were growing by the day.
Accommodating and satisfying our customers imposed the move into a larger location that would host multiple departments: fruits and vegetables, grocery, bakery, pastry, delicatessen and a butcher shop.
In 1984, the small start up 1000 sq ft store of Faillon Street transformed into a modest 6000 sq ft facility on Boulevard l’Acadie with a 10 000 sq ft warehouse.
Consistent Growth
In 1991 anxious to level up with customers expectations the 6000 sq ft store on Boulevard l’Acadie was expanded to a 12 000 sq ft store with a 20 000 sq ft warehouse and a new 6000 sq ft store was opened on Boulevard Des Sources in Dollard des Ormeaux catering to Montreal’s “West Island” population.
The ever anticipated opening of a new 18 000 sq ft store on Boulevard Curé Labelle in Laval materialized in 1998.
Market expectations, concept success, quality products and a unique customer service changed the customer’s experience and resulted into the growing popularity of “Marché Adonis” in all locations.
This was crowned with the 2002 relocation of the “Grand Marché Adonis” on Boulevard Sauvé in Ville St-Laurent -24000 sq ft- and the 2004 expansion opening of the “Grand Marché Adonis” on Boulevard des Sources in Dollard des Ormeaux -29000 sq ft-.
Ongoing Challenge
Strengthened by an attentive management team and over 500 dedicated employees in three branches and warehouses, Marché Adonis continuously exceeds expectations and distinguishes itself with a warm welcome, a class service and diversified quality products offered at competitive prices.
